wiring sugar flowers

Hi I am attempting to do wired flowers for a wedding cake. I have been woking on them all week but I keep having the same problem. I cant get the petal to actually stick to the wire. I am using a grooved board and I am using sugar glue on the wire before I insert it into the channel in the flower paste but the petal is not sticking. I am leaving them to dry overnight and sometimes longer but when I pick them up to wire to the stamens the petal just rolls around on the wire. What am I doing wrong. I have made wired roses and they are fine but the single petals on wires are a pain. HELP!

Have you tried using egg white instead? I used to get in a terrrible mess with the edible glue, gave up and used egg white which helped. I also make the vein on the groove a little thicker so the wire gets a better adhesion.
My big flower petal nighmare is the single petal peonies. Paul makes it look so easy! Hope you have better luck with next batch. Humidity will also affect drying and adhesion times.

Hope it works out for you. Don’t forget to pinch the bottom together where the wire goes in so it seals the little hole.
I still have petals which go around and around on wires. So frustrating! 🙂
