Tiering a heavy wedding cake using dowels and pillars

Hi, I have made my wedding cake, heart shaped, four tiers. 14,12,10 and 8 inch, they are fruit cakes covered in marzipan and fondant icing.
They are heavy and I am tiering them using dowels and pillars, the dowel goes through the cakes to the cake drums on each tier and then the pillar goes over the dowel through the hole in the pillars. I then level the top of the dowel to the same height as pillars. Hence the dowels take the weight.
My question is will the bottom cake take all the weight of the other three tiers using this method. I was thinking of putting five pillars, doweld in the bottom cake, then four in next and three in the next.
Any ideas would really help, thanks.

Hi taylor13

I have always been taught to treat heart shaped cakes like rounds but haven’t actually tiered this shape before. How you describe sounds correct however I would be inclined to use five dowels in all the tiers. Paul always advises to use more dowels if you’re unsure.
