Sugarpaste Direct?

Has anyone tried the white sugarpaste from Sugarpaste Direct? Is so what are your thoughts? My favourite sugarpaste is Massa but I’m always on the lookout for any alternatives that I can use as well. I would be looking to colour with paste colour so need something that is happy to be worked rather than just being rolled straight from the packet. Thank you.

Hi Julie

Take a peek at the answer given by member Jackie Harris in this thread:

renshaws sugarpaste

Lots of links for other threads talking about sugarpaste here: https://www.cakeflix.com/questions/which-brand-sugarpaste
Since all these comments were posted, many more pastes have been developed. I’ve lost count! One paste which everyone keeps raving about is http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SARACINO-5KG-TROPICAL-FONDANT-SUGARPASTE-/201631210886
I’m sure there are many other stockist. I haven’t tried it and can’t give first hand review.

Hope some of the threads helps.

Thank you MIWL, I think I’ll give it a try as my usual supplier of Massa is out of stock anyway.

I’ve never heard anyone say negetive things about it. One of the tutors I did attended courses with only ever used SPD. Hope you find it works out.

Hi Julie

I have always used Massa, but I recently tried Couture by Cake Stuff and I would say it’s on par with Massa and a lot cheaper! My next fondant order is going to be Couture instead of Massa, but the cakes I do aren’t for weddings but celebration cakes that aren’t too intricate/expensive, so for me it makes sense to use a cheaper fondant that works the same as the expensive ones.

Best wishes
Liz

I make my own fondant. It taste much better, in my opinion. It’s very easy. 16 ounces mini marshmallows, a few tablespoons of water, and 2 lbs of powdered sugar. you heat the marshmallows and one tablespoon water at a time in the microwave for about 30 seconds. You heat it in 30 second increments until smooth. i usually add 2 to 3 tablespoons in all. You need to grease your hands and board with Crisco, so that you can knead the fondant without sticking. Knead for about 10 minutes. cover in Crisco and wrap in plastic wrap. Pop it in the refrigerator for 8 hours. it lasts for weeks.

Thank you for sharing your recipe Cilla Catello.
In the past there was interest in home made sugarpaste so I’ve posted several recipes on the site which can be seen here: https://www.cakeflix.com/questions/how-to-make-sugarpaste-from-scratch
