Quoting extra

Hi. If you have already quoted a new prospective client for a cake and told them what’s included and they reply that the price is fine but can something for example an edible can of coke be on the cake board are you right to say that actually that will cost you a bit extra??

Hi gucci906

Yes, it is perfectly right to charge extra because it wasn’t part of the original design. The client can’t expect you to add to the design at your own cost. Hope this helps. x

Exactly how I feel. The lady has just left me a voicemail asking if I can make the cake smaller so that it includes the coke can in the price as she doesn’t want to pay anymore!!

It isn’t just a case of making the cake smaller, yes that might reduce the price of the cake a little. However you will be using more time and skills to produce the can, this has to be calculated in. It’s up to you if you want to make it for her, I wouldn’t! I’m not in business. I think you do need to re quote as a brand new order and perhaps make it slightly dearer than her first design. Just enough to make her realise skill and time doesn’t come cheap! She doesn’t want to pay more at the expense of your skills. If you don’t already have terms and conditions use this experience to draw up new terms to include extras. Good luck x
