Problems getting buttercream red!!

Can anyone give me advice on how to get a red buttercream? All the advice ive been given seems to differ. Ive beaten my butter ( Lurpak) until its as white as it can go, added pink, then Sugarflair red extra. Although Ive left it to develop, it still doesnt look red. Im worried about adding more than 2g of colouring to 1kg of buttercream< as thats what ive been told is the maximum safe amount, Is this true ? Any tips would be helpful, as ive wasted so many ingredients trying to get the colour.

Hi Tomandhen

Start with a light chocolate colour first Add red a little at a time to get it darker, then a little pink to make it brighter. ProGel colours are very intense and will give the good results
Another way is to use red powder colour instead of gel. To make, melt butter and add red powder colour, mix until smooth, add to buttercream. Let it sit overnight to develop.

Experiment with a little bit first before going for the whole amount.

Hope this helps
