Pile of papers cake

Hi have been asked to make a cake that looks like paperwork. My plan was to make double heigh 9″ squares and texture the edges to look like papers. Kind of how you would do a book cake but without the book cover. Is this how I should be doing it? Thanks

Hi gucci906

A pile of paper can either be a simple rectangular cake with lines marked off all the way around to depict sheets of stationery or a pile of paper work in different colour folders. Here is a simple but effective image for a pile of stationery https://www.fotolia.com/id/88254343
The very top sheet can be made of very thin gumpaste and laid across the cake as seen in the picture.
Paper work in coloured folders can be made by cutting down a couple of sheet cakes into thin layers. Fill and ice the layers to look like sheets of paper and wrap each in a piece of coloured icing to represent a folder as in these real folders: https://www.fotolia.com/id/50031720
The ‘folders’ can then be placed on top of each other at different angles so they look like work is in progress.
To see how to stack and dowel the folders see Paul’s graduation cake here:
