The problem is you’ll never get it matching. There will always be a join , so make this the back of the cake.

Make up three strips of lace. Loosely pin all the pieces up against the cake using dresser maker’s pins. At the back there will be an excess from one strip. Mark off and cut this to length from the middle, not from the ends, to remove the excess. Butt the two pieces together to form one length. It’s a bit like matching fabric or wall paper patterns to get the best match.

Take care to remove all the pins and pack them before sticking all the pieces together onto the cake.

EDIT: Keep all the excess pieces to use as pretty embellishments on other projects. Wrap them in parchment paper and tuck them away in the lace mat folder or in a draw. Nothing has to be wasted. 🙂
