Guitar Cake – How many portions

Hi
Paul uses a 10inch and a 5inch cake for the guitar cake.
How many portions do you think I can get from this cake?
1X2 inch and 1X1 inch porions , its very hard to work out even using the portion guide in the blog.

Thanks

Hi Jackie

I haven’t made this cake but I think I would download the template, place it on the size of the cakes and judge how much would be taken off for the carving. That would give an approximate measurement of the guitar and hopefully an estimate of portions using the chart, also taking into account the narrower parts of the cake which may not yield the portion sizes you’ve mentioned. Perhaps members who have made the cake will be able to give a better guide, this is just how I would do it.

Hi Jackie,
I would get out my ruler and pencil and on the template draw lines an inch apart in one direction, and 2 inches apart in the other to give a definitive answer (and obviously doubled up for the 1×1 portion size)!

Thanks guys,

Thats exactly what I did, should have thought of this before posting the question, anyway from Paul’s template you get about 65 – 75 portions, thats cutting 1 x 1.
Customer wants cake for 300 portions, so will have to scale up to a full size guitar, it will be tricky, but might convince her to do Pauls size on top of a rectangle cake.
Thanks anyway for your comments.

You could do a cutting cake in the same colours as the guitar which can be cut out of sight and have the guitar as the display cake.
