Flower wires

Hi
Could I ask why the wires for flowers are coated with paper? Is there a need for this? Does if help with adhesion to the flower paste once inserted? I have seen some excellent low cost florist wire that is 26gauge but it silver with no paper. As I’ll be covering the wires as the peony comes together is there any need for the wires to be bought white?
Thanks

Hi wardshar

The coated wires do help with adhesion. Some countries allow wires to be inserted directly into cakes if they are covered, as you know this is not permitted in the UK. If you can cover the uncoated wires well, there is no reason why they can’t be used. I have uncovered wires which I bought from florist suppliers, I find they cover without problem As with all wired flowers they must not be inserted into cakes without first being placed in post picks. Hope this helps. x
