I keep reading good reviews for the Karen Davies. If you didn’t want to spend heaps on moulds have a look also on ebay for sugarcrafting face moulds. There are quite a few good ones which can be adapted into Disney characters. I make my own mould with silicone putty or with odd bits of gumpaste. It saves on buying expensive tools all the time.

Thanks madeitwithlove. I have seen lots of molds but they are so expensive if you don’t like the one you purchased. I was more wondering if anyone had a favourite. Perhaps it comes down to personal preference? I did buy a Disney doll so I’ll have to have a go at my own molds. I haven’t done it yet because I may have to cut off the hair first and I don’t want to destroy it :-).
Jayess, I used to scour the charity shops for broken toys. You’ll be surprised what you’d find. As for the hair on the doll, how about sweeping it up very tight against the scalp and wrapping the head from the hair line with clingfilm? It’s just a suggestions which I hope is coming across.
Another suggestion is to look at the polymer clay face tutorials. I find them fantastic, in fact more helpful than the sugarcraft tutorials. Building a face using bas relief method is also quite good. I used to make bas relief faces on small styrofoam eggs then sculpt until it looked acceptable before covering with icing, reshaping and colouring in the features. Paul uses this method on his big green halloween monster and I think his Merida tutorial.
