Clare Bowman Cake Lace

Hi, I used some pre-mixed pearlised gold cake lace yesterday and left it overnight and this morning to dry naturally in a cool room. Unfortnately it was very brittle and I was unable to extract it from the mould successfully. In the past I have used the mix yourself white lace with success. Is there anything I can do to make the lace more flexible. I would really appreciate your help as I am practising for may daughters wedding cake.

Thank you
Best wishes Gill

Hi Gill

If you do a layer of gold first, overlay it with the ‘mix yourself white’ and then another layer of gold, this comibation will make the gold a lot more flexible. Have a play, hope you get the result you’re looking for. 🙂

Thank you very much. I am assuming you do not let it dry between layers. Is that correct?

Thanks again

There’s no need to let it dry between layer but it does take longer to dry because of the two different consistencies. If you have a play you’ll be able to gauge the timing.

Hi Gill I’ve used the metallic ready made lace and they are all much more brittle.Great tip there from Madeitwithlove I’ll certainly remember that for future. You could also try oven drying it then you can control the drying time and hopefully be able to take it out of the mat before it hardens too much.House of Cakes make ready made strips of lace in different designs which can be sprayed or painted .
