Cartoon pig cake – Making decorations in advance?

Hello,

My daughter’s party’s is in two weeks and I’m making her the Peppa pig cake from the “Cartoon pig” tutorial – can I start making the characters, house, sun and trees in advance?

If so, how long will they keep? The trees are made of modelling chocolate, will these require different storage?

Thanks so much.

I think it would be best to add the cocktail sticks in at time of making. As you’ve rightly said, the sugarpaste will have hardened and it will be difficult to insert them at that stage. It won’t hurt to add a little cmc powder for the little boots. Nine days is a fair time for everything to set nicely, just keep everything well ventilated. Hope all goes well.

Hi Sueannbailey

All the decorations can be made up weeks in advance. Just do them exactly as Paul shows in the tutorial. Once they are dry, place them in a cardboard box with plenty of ventilation. Please don’t place them in airtight or plastic boxes as this makes the decorations sweat and remain soft or sometimes even gooey
Store in a cool room away from direct heat sources and smells. The modelling chocolate trees can be stored similarly.

Hope this helps.

Yes, that will be fine, just go gently. If things go a bit wrong while painting, use a brush moistened in vodka to remove any mishaps or marks. Hope your daughter has a lovely birthday.

Hi Sue

Your post ‘I’m still waiting……..’ printed twice so I’ve deleted the copy to tidy up the thread. Hope you don’t mind. x

Hello, I’m still waiting for my tiny brushes, can I still paint the mouths on once the fondant dries? Thanks in advance!

Sorry I hope this is my last question! In the video Paul waits until he fixes the models to the cake before inserting cocktail sticks for the legs – do I need to do this at the same time as making the models given that I am making them in advance? I.e. Will they be too hard by the time I come to affix them to the cake in about 9 days time to insert the cocktail sticks at that point?

Also do the little boots need to have cmc added to the fondant?

Thanks so much!

He will look more distinguished! If you haven’t already done the clouds, might be best to leave them until the last minute because they have to curve on the side of the cake. They’re easy to cut out and stick on even on day of party.

Yes am leaving clouds, hills and puddle right til the end 🙂 thank you so much for all your help! Mummy pig done tonight!
