Captain Bradley

Hi,
I’m having a go at making Captain Bradley, and was wondering if its ok to use 18 gauge wire rather than 20?
Also is it ok if hes about 10 inchs tall, or is that too big?

Hello Slim

I guess Paul found 20 gauge wire strong enough for the height of his model. If you want to make your model taller, it will weigh more so 18 gauge may well be more appropriate. As long as the height of the model doesn’t look out of proportion to the cake, it can be made to any height. Please also see Rhu Strands pirate lady model, you’ll find templates for her height by clicking on the ingredients tab under the video:

Emma Ball’s models in the 4th Anniversay cake uses different size wires. A peek there might also help you see the difference in the wire gauges strengths : https://www.cakeflix.com/online-cake-decorating-courses/fourth-anniversary-figure-modelling

Hope you’ll find them helpful.
