Candle cake

I have seen some lovely pictures of cakes that have real straight candles in them. Does anyone know how this can be done in a way which is food safe? Thanks x

Thank you. That’s a great idea. I think I’ll get some of those just for peace of mind as the cakes are for Xmas gifts. Thanks again for your help madeitwithlove xxx

Hi DIANE

Take a peek here for all different designs:

….. and here is a tutorial which you can adapt for any design:
This is a tutorial: https://cakejunki.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/dr-oetker-christmas-candle-cake.html
There may be tutorial on youtube so it’s worth searching for Christmas candle cake tutorial.

The candle wax remains contained in the tealight holder, it doesn’t spill out into the cake. Just clean the holder with a little alcohol before inserting into the hollow. (edit) You could also use a battery operated tealight.

Thank you so much. I just wasn’t sure if it would need an extra food safe container for the candle xxx

If you’re not happy with the container the candle comes in, you can use a heat proof glass one. These are easily available in supermarkets or online. I got mine from Sainsbury’s.
