BMW Sport Logo

Hi

I would like to make a cake topper with the above logo and would really appreciate any help going about this please. The cake should be very stable as it’s a fruit cake and will hopefully have a nice flat top. I don’t have an edible ink printer and my local sugar craft supplies shop doesn’t do 10inch round cake toppers, well actually it would probably need to be a 9inch cake topper I guess as the cake is 10inches in diameter.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi again bellscakes

Do you just want a printed logo? If you are based in the UK , The Cake Decorating Company print them as do many others if you send in your specifications and photo. See their prices here:

Alternatively you could also make a frozen buttercream transfer. Lots of tutorial on youtube to achieve a decent image. Take a peek here:

Please let me know if it is the printed type or where you are thinking more of a stand up logo. x:)

Hi madeitwithlove

I only just picked up your response email thanks very much. I would really prefer to make the logo from sugar paste or flower paste or as a last resort I would order a printed one. I have never heard of a frozen buttercream transfer or had thought of a stand up one so yes if you can please let me know more about the stand up logo that would be fantastic.. I’m not that great at getting measurements that accurate, so hopefully I will be able to get it looking professional. My husband normally takes care of the technical stuff but the cake is a surprise for his birthday so I’m on my own with this one.

I’ll take a links you kindly sent.

Many thanks

at getting measurements really accurate

early June so should hopefully have plenty of time. Yes if you can let me know about the stand up logo that would be great.

Oops just ignore the disjointed text under the last message. I am having trouble trying to turn off the overwrite/insert function on the keyboard. x

It would really help if you could send me a link of the actual logo you want to create. Shape and size of the cake would help for the accurate measurements. I’ve had a look in google images and there are so many different types.

For stand up logo, I was going to suggest printing off the logo on paper and then cutting round the individual letters using pastillage. This medium dries hard extremely quickly but it must be kept completely flat. If not pastillage, flower paste will also work. It can also be done in Royal icing flood work. This entails tracing the image on secured parchment paper and tracing around it using royal icing of a certain consistency. It needs to dry for several days and once dry it will slide off the parchment. Take a peek here for tutorials:
https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+pipe+a+royal+icing+collar&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b

If it’s the badge, frozen buttercream transfer would work, I did it on an RAF badge for a charity function. Have a peek at the first link I set for instructions.

Also have a look in your local library for the International Sugarcraft books series, they have all the flooding techniques.

I have an edible ink printer which I rarely use and wish I could help you out with the image. Similarly I have all the books, cutters, moulds, you name it I have it and wish there was a way of sharing/loaning. We need a lending Sugarcraft library! xx

HI madeitwithlove
Thanks very much for all your help and your kind thoughts of helping me with sharing and lending as it were, If only…Yes it would be fantastic to have a lending library!

I have looked at the frozen buttercream transfer method and it looks amazing but not sure my piping techniques would pass the test!. However I have seen a BMW sport logo cake with the badge on top, on google images that I’d like to try. It’s a black iced cake and has happy birthday Massimo on the top, though I will put my happy birthday message on the cake drum. The badge on this cake topper doesn’t look too difficult as the quarters are mounted on a grey circle although I really like the metallic detail in-between the quarters and around the edge of some of the other toppers on the same page. So any tips on how to do that would be gratefully received. Additionally, how would I achieve the rounded edges on each of the quarters please? The other thing is, how to make the sport stripes that would sit on the front side of the cake if you see what I mean. For example would the cut stripes just be placed onto the glued surface of the iced cake, one by one? Or would the stripes be made up as a whole unit? I’d like to get them looking really neat.
The fruit cake I have made is 10inches round and will be placed on a 12 or 13inch cake drum. I’m not sure if I should ice the cake drum or have perhaps a blue coloured one to pick up the blue on the stripes. Again your opinion here would be great please. Many thanks. xx

Hi bellescakes

I couldn’t find the cake you mentioned on google images. However, I found some tutorials on youtube which you might find helpful. They’re not in English but the steps are easy to follow. Try this one first as it is quite good. Then look at others as they pop up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Dt2qUsaO2E

You will need to download an image of the logo or perhaps go to your local BMW dealer and ask for a cardboard or paper logo which you could use as the template. On a 10″ cake I think an 8″ logo would look good. You’ll achieve the rounded edges on the quarters by cutting them out using the template. Smooth any rough edges with a damp finger or paint brush before sticking them down. The metallic detail in between the quarters can be painted on, using silver petal dust either dry or made into a thinnish paint with vodka. Be careful not to overload the paint brush, do it a little a time until you’re satisfied with the look.

The tutorial doesn’t show how to do the stripes. For these, download the image according the height you want and cut out each stripe to use as the template on fondant. Have the icing about a quater of an inch thick to make them stand out. Smooth any rough edges before sticking them down on the cake.

Hope this will be easier with the video. 🙂
