Big Cake sizes

Hi, I always have trouble with deep 10” cakes not quite cooking in the centre. If I wanted a 4 layer cake with each layer being about an 1” and I baked each layer separately , what size recipe do you think I should put in a 10” tin? Does that make sense? Thanks

Hi Nookums

If you have problems with baking deep cakes I would strongly recommend that you bake layers in 1!”tins. That’s exactly what I do. The cakes bake more evenly and quickly and there isn’t the hassle of layering. If your recipe is for a 10″ tin, 4″ deep divide the recipe by 4 to give the amount required to fill each of the 1″ pans. If it’s for a 10″ tin, 3″ deep, divide the recipe by 3.
Make sense?
