Best Recipe

Hi
Can anybody suggest a really good chocolate cake recipe for a 6yr old child’s birthday cake please? I have Jane Hornby’s rich dark chocolate cake recipe which is beautiful though too rich for a small child I feel. I have also tried Peggy Porschen’s rich chocolate cake recipe which was good, but seemed to lack depth of taste. I’d like a good all round chocolate cake suitable for young children and would like to bake the cake in preferably a 10inch round tin. Any help would be great thanks.

Hi bellscakes

If you want to carve the cake, a sponge won’t be suitable. Here’s a mud cake which uses half milk and half dark chocolate which would be suitable for carving and is easy to make:

Or just use half and half for any recipe you like. Bear in mind the milk chocolate has sugar in it so you could reduce the sugar in the recipe of your choice.
