Airbrush Overspray

Hi,

I got very close to buying an airbrush yesterday, but then found a lot of conversations on the interweb regarding overspray, and the fact it gets everywhere. I suspect the first time I accidentally paint the kitchen and surrounding areas would be the last time I’d be allowed to spray paint in the house.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Are there spraying techniques to mitigate overspray? Or should I prepare to cover every inch of the kitchen with paper/dust sheets/etc?

Hi M Gibson

It’s true, yes the spray does tend to settle in quite a wide area. To avoid this you could use a portable spray booth or even a large box enough to contain the excess spray. Portable spray booths can be purchased at a reasonable price or you could make one for yourself. Take a peek at following google searches for ideas:

It’s a good idea also to wear a protective face mask so you’re not breathing in the colour spray.

Thanks madeitwithlove. And sorry. I forgot to respond in a timely manner 🙁

After a bit of googling, this (https://www.cakesafe.com/store#!/Airbrush-Spray-Booth/c/12169190/offset=0&sort=normal) looked amazing. But as a novice baker, I just couldn’t justify the expense.

So I ended up with (https://www.homeright.com/products/small-spray-shelter) – a small spray booth that packs up to a really small size. Ideal for storage.

That’s a really cool looking substitute! Thank you sooo much for sharing the link. I think other members are going to find this idea pretty useful too. X 🙂
