Airbrush Kit

Hi….
I’m looking at purchasing my first airbrush and was looking for a brand that has been tried and tested, easy to use and a steady machine but not too pricey!!
I am making a ‘watch’ cake and I thought the best way to achieve the metallic titanium colour on the bezel and housing of the watch was to use an airbrush??
I have watched Paul’s tutorials with his airbrushing techniques and advice which I found to be very helpful…..has anyone used an airbrush for doing this type of cake to achieve a smooth silver metallic finish as your help would be greatly appreciated…….
Thanks in advance…Tracey x

I have a dinkydoodle airbrush too. I love it. Dawn has some great YouTube videos incase your airbrush becomes loose etc. it’s been invaluable. Her colours are a little expensive but they do dry and you can spray over the colours and still achieve that colour. I do use water based ones too though in her airbrush and they work just as we’ll. You can buy them from Amazon. I use Kroma.

Thank you so much for all of your tips and advice Codebreaker, wardshar and of course MIWL 🙂

Today I received Dinkydoodle Designs airbrush which I ordered throughout ‘Cake Stuff’ via eBay (£85) and have already watched the DVD that came with it and I am so excited to start (once I have purchase the paint that is). I will endeavour to find some ‘Kroma’ wardshar and I will also try Dinkydoodles paint too…..where would you suggest I purchase it from?

ANY help/advice on airbrushing would be gratefully received on this post for all to benefit from….thanks again.

Hi Tracey

I have Dawn Butler’s Dinkydoodle which is a lovely little machine for me. I do find the bowl a little small but I think that’s just me because I’m still learning to control the spray. There are lots of comments and answers all over the site from other members which I know will help. Try here for some of the answers, see what other members use:

Purchasing an AIrbrush

And if you type in the search box ‘airbrush’ you’ll come across lots of other airbrush related questions and comments including metallic paints. These may become useful at a later stage.
Hope this helps. x

Thank you once again MIWL, your advice is greatly appreciated and helps a great deal 🙂 x

Hi,
Like yourself I’ve just got one off ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191149305944?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I’m new to airbrushing but won’t buy an expensive one till I’ve tried it out first and some of the read ups I’ve read say that these small airbrushes are just as good as the expensive ones. Still waiting for mine to arrive and should receive it this week. I’ve noticed alot of really good cake makers use airbrushing and for me it seems like the next step in the learning process x

Definitely, please everybody post your experiences with the different types of airbrushes and techniques for the benefit of all members. Thanks Tracey for a great thread, I hope it will generate much response. x

hi,

I used the airbrush when it arrived last week and can only say you don’t need to pay the earth for something that does exactly the same job. £39 quid and the airbrush and pump work like a dream and does everything some of the expensive models do. So for a beginner this was ideal.

Thanks Codebreaker for your feed back. I hope other members will continue adding to this thread, more opinions and feed back = more choices.

Hi Tracey

You’re very welcome! Paul is often seen using Dinkydoodle in the tutorials, he makes light work of airbrushing!
The technique does take time to master so don’t get disheartened if things don’t always turn out right the first time. Here is Dawn Butler’s contact details http://www.dinkydoodle.co.uk/Contact-Us.html
She’s a really kind and helpful person. I’ve phoned and text her in the past for guidance and information and she has always been happy to help. If you’re not sure about anything at all about her product before buying, either email her, phone, text or fill in her contact form for more information.
Happy learning xx
