95% alcohol

Please can anyone help? I am in Seville for a few days and I very much want to buy some strong alcohol for mixing with colours for painting on the cakes. What do I ask for and where do I go to get it? Is it a supermarket thing or do I go to the chemist? Paul gets it in the squeezey sqirty bottles, that is what I am after.
Many thanks if you are able to help me,
CandyTara

Hi CandyTara

This answer is from my hubby who is a chemist. He says to ask for isopropanolol or alcohol isopropilico. They should understand what it is as this a internationally named chemical. I don’t know where Paul buys it from, best bet is to ask in a Pharmacia or even possibly supermarkets. I seem to remember Paul saying something about buying it in a supermarket. You will not be able to board an aircraft with the chemical or even stow it in your luggage as it is highly flammable an illegal to carry.

Hope this this helps.

Hi CandyTara,

Paul gets the 96% Alcohol from supermarkets in Spain. Follow the link below for an image of the bottle he uses:

However, he has only recently found out that while it is highly unlikely to cause any harm this product is not verified as food safe.

There is 96% food grade alcohol available, but we’ve now been told that you get that from a liquor store. This is where Madeitwithlove’s advice above is best to follow.
