12 inch square victoria sponge cake.

Hi there,

I have been asked to make my brothers birthday cake. It is meant to be a chess board and to make it I’m using a 12 inch / 30 cm cake tine. His favourite is victoria sponge and I came across an old question of yours about a Record player cake (which sounds fantastic). I’ve been struggling to find a recipe and looking through the comments on that post I could not figure out how to scale a recipe up (i’m so awful at maths etc) and I was wondering if you would be able to help me with the quantities for the cake and the buttercream

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my question.
Have a lovely day 🙂

Hello manjotjabbal

Any Victoria sponge cake recipe can be used. To scale the recipe up or down there are 2 tools here:
http://www.cakeflix.com/blog/how-to-work-out-what-size-cake-tin-to-use

If you’re not happy working figures out you may find the cakeometre easier to use than the ready reckoner. Hope this helps. If you need more information please post again.

Hi markashmeil

Mrs Jones’ vanilla cake recipe is pre loaded on the site’s cake recipe calculator. All you have to do is select it using the down arrow and then fill in the ingredients grid to get the required scaled recipe . See the calculator here:
