what size cake to serve 60?

I am going to make a bus cake and was going to use 2×10 inch square cakes cut in half and stacked. I need it to serve 60 people but not sure if this will be enough?

Hi Tomandhen123

The amount of portions will depend on how big a piece of cake you will want to serve your guests.
Here is David’s portions chart:

As you will see a 10″ square cake will yield 50 2″ x 1″ portions. With carving you will lose a few portions.
What you can do is make the bus from your 10″ square cake as the novelty and make an extra flat cutting cake to make up the remaining portions. I did that with my teddy cake which I stacked on top of a 10″ square cake. It looked like a topper. Both cakes were taken away into the kitchen for cutting so there was plenty for everyone. It’s just a suggestion which might help. x

or you could make some cute cupcakes to go along with the bus. a wafer cookie cut to look like the shape of a bus on top of a cupcake with M&M for wheels and a little quick decorating- could give you the extra portions.
