It’s useful to have both in your decorating kit. I use both + cocktail sticks. This is my double sided veiner

There are loads of less expensive brands online. I waited ages before getting the ones I have, was waiting to see whether the spend was justified. Really lovely tool.

Does a petal / leaf veiner allow room for floral wire insertion or does it just give texture to the flower / leaf ? So much on the market and so expensive for something that seems so simple. What do the more expensive ones do that the cheaper ones don’t?

Hi franke

I agree with you, there are so many products on the market. I’m just a hobbist so go really carefully with what I buy. Some of the veiners do have room for wire insertion, others don’t. If you click on the set link above you’ll be able to see which do and which don’t. You can always using a veining board or veining rolling pin and just use a universal leaf/petal veiner. You could use the real thing from nature. If you use the real thing ensure it is not a poisonous plant. I’ve made many cutters and veiners using the real plant, it works well for my needs! The expensive ones tend to be heavy duty with crisp detail. They are mostly botanically correct because the real thing is used as templates. I sometimes buy ‘seconds’, that’s products which have either minutely failed muster on detail or they may be first or second castings and not perfect. You’d never know there was anything wrong with them unless pointed out. What you buy depends on how accurate you want the details to be and whether you actually need your work to be botanically precise.
