TREX IN SUGARPASTE BEFORE ROLLING OUT TO COVER A CAKE

I know that Trex can be added to soften sugarpaste for small sugarcraft work, but a tip I read somewhere recently was to knead Trex into the sugarpaste before rolling out to cover a cake…the idea being to prevent the hazard of the paste drying out and cracking as it is draped over the cake, especially at the edges and corners.
I’ve never tried this and am not sure about doing so.
I would really appreciate any views, opinions , insight into this suggestion.
Many thanks,
Deane-Mae

Hi Deane-Mae

If your icing is prone to drying out and cracking it may be practical for you to do that. Personally I find fresh icing is always too soft and adding trex to it just makes it softer. I do rub a little into my roll out board to prevent my Satin ice sticking, reducing the amount of icing sugar I have to use when rolling out. The only way to see whether this works for you is to try it on 50g of sugarpaste. The paste won’t spoil as the sugar will absorb the fat
