Teaching 10-14yr olds!!
Hi Everyone, Has anyone out there any ideas as to what I could teach a group of scouts (15 boys and 4 girls)
in a two hour slot within a 10-14yr old age group. It`s my son`s scout group and there will only be me and my limited amount of equipment. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Many thanks Lynda

What about taking in some cupcakes and get them to make some butter icing different colours and take different toppings for them to decorate.
Or what about melting chocolate and adding Rice Krispies they could also decorate these in the cup cases.

You haven’t mentioned what type of facilities you will have at the teaching establishment. I was thinking more along the same lines as Jackie but perhaps get the older children to mix and bake the cupcakes, choose a mix which needs the least baking! Once they’re in the oven get the younger ones to make the butter cream. The older ones could start clearing up to keep them occupied and watch the cupcakes. The little cakes don’t take long to cool, while cooling, all the children could cut out sugarpaste or gumpaste decorations eg flowers, butterflies etc It’s possible you might have time to teach the older kids some buttercream piping techniques, if not they could all dollop buttercream on the cc and decorate with the cut outs, coloured sugar and any other bits and pieces you have. Or…. how about making cake pop truffles & rice krispie pops, rocky road crunch bars

Two hours is quite a long time. Wth help from some of the older children it’s possible you could achieve a few different little treats. I appreciate you are limited in equipment, if making cut out decorations perhaps some children can roll out paste, others cut and some place on formers. Keeps every one doing something! I used to work with pre school children and found giving each group something to do kept the exercise in control.
