Taste of perfume

I have made a number of cupcakes for a fete, used the same recipe throughout, have decorated with various easter designs and have 2 complaints that the cakes they bought tasted of perfume I am at a loss as I don’t have any air freshness in my kitchen I am wandering if any icings have this taste .Ifeel I can’t go on selling these if I am getting this response out of 60cakes 2 complaints any suggestions

Wow Alicain you’re being pretty hard on yourself! It’s possible the icing took on the scent of perfumes at the fete.
Buttercream takes on smells really quickly so it could even have been the perfume from the two customers who complained. Other possibilities could be perfumed sanitising fluids or hand wash but then that would have affected more cake if you had their perfumes on your own hands. The perfume could have been on the customers hands. Lots of possibles, it doesn’t necessarily mean it has anything to do with you.
I don’t think you have anything to be worried about, don’t beat yourself up quite yet! If it happens again and more cakes are tainted perhaps then it may have a bearing on products used at home. Some washing up liquids can be very heavily perfumed and the smell lingers on. Wait and see what happens next time. x

Thanx for your info but the cakes were in pods I have taken one apart and I think it is the icing (coloured) therefore my thoughts are to buy white icing and colour it by myself I will give that a go
