Hope someone can help. I would like to cover a full sugarpaste cake with sparkle, I have looked this up and some say use alcohol and then throw on the sparkle and other say to use piping gel this is for a child so I do not want to use alcohol

How about rubbing the cake all over with a little shortening and then applying the sparkle on with a powder puff or a big soft makeup brush?
