Scaling Cake Recipes – a very good online calculator!

I’m new on here and new to cake decorating, and this might help less experienced people. I am using the Sweet Success cake mixes and they are really excellent (decorating is my main worry at the moment, not whittling whether my home-made cake will sink!), although their quantities for the tins is very scant. I find I have to bake the next size up in the smaller tin (ie. 12″ recipe in a 10″ tin) just to get some depth. They don’t have a 14″ recipe so I used their cakeulator (!) to scale it up. It’s so easy to use – just follow the instructions and it scales up beautifully for any cake recipe. http://www.sweetsuccess.uk.com/cakeculatorscaler.asp

Hi Topsy

Thanks for this and welcome to the site! Cakes can also be scaled up here:

What Size cake tin to use

On this site there are also guide charts for sugarpaste amounts, buttercream amounts and ganache amounts for different sized cakes. The blog section has lots of other useful information too. Hope you have time to browse through. 🙂
