Rice krispie models

i want to make some rice krispie shapes to make posts for a boxing ring cake. How do you cover with sugar paste? Do you put the sugar paste straight on?

Hi Tomandhen123
When I was watching Cake Boss it looked like they just covered it in buttercream before putting the fondant icing on. If you are able to get that channel you should have a look at it. Lots of tips for cake decorating. Or have a look at You tube as I’m sure I’ve seen him on there too.
Hope all that helps.
PS. The rice krispie mixture can be rolled as well once it is set. Ideal for doing cylinder shapes ( Castle turrets etc etc)

you could brush them with melted chocolate I find this way the best as the krispies don’t go soggy, hope this helps

I made a small handbag the other day with rice crispies in melted chocolate that worked just as well as the marshmallow recipe and not so sticky to work with. I then carved it and covered with ganache followed by fondant and it came out fine.

For a very smooth surface I use a thin layer of marzipan which seems to absorb all the bumps and lumps.
Best thing to do first though is to compress the RKT as much as possible so it’s really tight. If you don’t want to use marzipan, a thin layer of sugar paste base or modelling chocolate would work just as well.
I made a 2 foot dinosaur with RKT and first covered with marzipan, he turned out great and held for many weeks afterwards.

I made mine a bit different, non-edible though. For the poles, I used dowels covered with black modeling chocolate and the ropes I used skewers painted red. I hot glued the poles & dowels together to the desired shape then covered the poles. then carefully lifted the entire structure onto the cake & pushing it down into place.
