Mosaic Vase cake with a mosaic flower.

Hi
Do you know how to make the above. Basically I would like 1 flower ín the mosaic design.
Also would you put this mosaic pattern on top of the sugarpaste then draw it before cutting and putting the mosaic pieces?
Thank you.

Hi SkyCakes

I haven’t made a mosaic pattern on cake yet! I have a tutorial which I bought from Wilton and haven’t gotten around to watching. I think the best way would be to ice the vase cake in the colour you want the grout to be. Make up fondant colours , roll them out and cut at random the tiles. Leave the tiles to dry. Etch out the shape of the flower in to the icing and fill with the coloured tiles you want the flower to be. Tile the remainder of the vase with the different shapes and colours which should now be dry. The grout can be further enhanced using edible marker pens if you want it to be a different colour. This is similar to cermamic tiling technique. There are several mosaic tutorials online,. Pretty Witty cakes actually has a vase and flower tutorial which has to be purchased from their site. Hope this helps.
