Cracks in sugarpaste

Hi. Is there a way to prevent cracks in sugarpaste please? I tend to use a little corn flour when rolling out but am careful not to use too much. I let it dry out for a day before stacking but still end up with small cracks? What am I doing wrong please? How long should I leave a cake to dry out before stacking?
Thanks

Hello b2eep

When do you dowel your cakes? If you dowel them the next day this could be the reason why you’re getting cracks. I dowel my cakes while the icing is soft and stack the next day. Straight after icing smooth a very tiny amount of trex around the vulnerable parts of the cakes where you’re experiencing the cracks. As the icing dries out the trex will retain some of the moisture and reduce the cracks.
