Colour combo

I have a bride that has fallen in love with your golden damask rose cake and she’s asked if I could replicate it for her. But with a pink theme running through. This is where I’d like some advice please. She’d like the bottom tier in antique gold, the middle in twinkle pink and the top in ivory. She’d like a couple of statement peonies on the cake in white. How can I make the colors flow please?
Thanks in advance

Hi Candy

I’m not really sure how it is you would like to change the flow of this beautiful designs. I understand you would like the middle tier to be ‘twinkle pink’, this is not a colour I am familar with. I did google it to see what it is but so many different shades come up that it’s difficult to suggest what to do. Paul did the middle tier in an darker shade or ivory and stencilled in a lighter shade of the same. I guess this can be done with two shades of pink. Have the base as twinkle pink and the stencil with a shade lighter?? I think it’s a case of playing around with it. Another way of running the gold theme through would be to outline the stencil design with gold very lightly. This would frame the design and make it stand out more. The rims of the statement flowers and leaves could also be touched with gold here and there.

How about covering a small dummy and practicing the options?

Thank you madewithlove,
the twinkle pink is a lustre dust colour from sugarflair. I was thinking a light pink with maybe an ivory stencil, still not made my mind up on the colour of the peonies yet, I’ve made then in white, so they have time to dry. Then I’ll dust later

I think since you’ve made the flowers in white already how about giving them a dusting of ivory and a very slight pink blush? After dusting, steam the flowers to set the colour. Keep the colours very low key so it’s just a tinge. Take a peek for inspiration of colours here:

Have look also at the chevron cake tutorial where Paul shows how to dust flowers to give a beautiful vintage look. Scroll down in the lessons until you see dusting here:

Make lots of peonies to allow for breakage. I had a dreadful time with mine.

For the cake, the light pink with ivory stencil sounds lovely. Why not try the colours out on a mood board. I think mood boards are a great way of looking how colours flow together. Take a peek here:

Hope things work out for you. x
