Caramel Ingredient

Hi

Regarding a question I posted last week relating to making toffee cake by adding a tin of caramelised condensed milk. Sorry but I have been unable to find any information about the quantity of cake mixture used, size of baking tin, and whether the caramelised condensed milk is from large or small tin. I have searched the questions relating to this on pages 1,2, and 3 of the toffee cake discussion and simply can’t find the information I need. Please can anyone offer some help? Many thanks x

Hi bellescakes

I’m sorry you haven’t been able to find relevant information in the toffee cake discussion. It’s just a general discussion between members so it’s best to read through all three pages of comments to get the scattered information.
I’ve gone through the discussion and this is what I’ve picked up:
On page 1 Catherine gives her recipe for her toffee cake which she bakes in a 10″ pan but she doesn’t say which shape. Catherine bakes at 135c which I believe is for a fan oven. I think the flour is self raising, if it had been plain I feel Catherine would have mentioned to use leavening which she doesn’t. She bakes for 2 hours.

Also on page 1 member alison64 says she uses her normal vanilla cake recipe ( you could use your normal recipe) and she adds a tin of caramalised condensed milk to her recipe. By a tin I understand that as a regular 300 – 350ml can which can be purchased in all supermarkets. There are different brands like Carnation and Nestle.
On page 2 there is a discussion between member bagpuss and Joeb about size of pan, they both mention 10″ square.

Throughout the different pages members discuss what has worked for them but they don’t necessarily give specific instructions however the information they do provide can be relevant.
I hope this will help.

You’re welcome bellscakes, let us know how your cakes turn out, it would be good to add some more information in that discussion. x

Not sure if this helps, but I add half a bottle of toffee sauce (like Askeys or shop own brand) or more and it turns out delicious – seems to take away any ‘cake-mix’ taste that I think was there before and adds a real toffee taste, plus makes it really moist. Had loads of good comments 🙂

Hi goldengoose25
Thanks very much for the tip. I’m looking forward to trying this out as I have never made a toffee cake with mix or from scratch before. X
