Camera bag cake?? Help!

Hi, I’ve been asked to make a camera bag cake (looks like a big satchel) – can anyone point me towards a good tutorial?
I can find lots of handbag style tutorials, but not a satchel style. many thanks.

Hi bethbakes

Several years back, before we had Paul teaching us, I made a similar bag to the one in your link. I used an 8″ square cake 3″ deep which I cut into 3, filled and slightly shaped using the real bag as guide. Paul has several bag tutorials in the course library. Each will have an element which can be utilised in creating the different parts of your camera bag like the flap, front and side pockets, metal work and strap. The pockets can be made by either shaping sugarpaste or modelling chocolate into wedges or by using some scrap pieces of cake. If you start with your basic shape first the rest can be worked out using the bag tutorials. I surprised myself how quickly it all came together. The only part I had a little difficulty with was the strap which had been rolled out much too thin and it broke at the venue! I would recommend down loading some more pics of the bag from different angles and perhaps also find out the real dimensions.
This tutorial http://www.cakeflix.com/online-cake-decorating-courses/designer-flapback-handbag
is particularly informative for things like the flap and metals. Hope some of this helps.
