Cake lustre & Roses

bellscakes:
Hi I am planning to put pearl lustre on a couple of wedding cake tiers. And I am making white roses to go on top. But if I also lustre them with the same pearls lustre will the effect be lost? If so how can I overcome this please? Thanks.

Hi bellescakes

Have a look at the effect on the white chocolate shard cake which is all the same colour (I think!)

White Chocolate Shard

If you didn’t want to lustre your flowers completely white you could very, very slightly accent them by encompassing other colours from the wedding. For example have a look at the colours in the bride’s bouquet. Lustre the outer edges of the petals with a colour which is a shade lighter or use the lustre further down. You could also just touch the petals with edible glitter so they stand out rather than blend into the cake.
If you’ve got some spare roses or can make up a couple more why not play with some colours on them to see the effect. Personally I would be very light handed, just a hint of a tint! Hopefully other members will give some creative ideas too.

Hi Madeitwithlove

Thanks very much for your advice it’s given me a better idea. The bride’s bouquet will be white roses with some greenery and gypsophilia. And from memory the bridesmaids will be along similar lines. So do you think I ought to tinge the edges of the petals with some green petal dust. Then again would that work on an already lustred rose? I do like the idea of the petals edged with edible glitter though. I’d be happy for any other ideas thanks very much.

Sometimes adding a tinge on lustred flowers can make them look like cheap decorations. So if you’re going to do it go really gently. The greenery you mention sounds very good. I would keep it a fresh green rather than dark. Google ‘wedding cake greenery’ for some really fab ideas. You’ll be able to see what would go best with your design. Let know if you find something, meanwhile I’ll look through some of my magazines and books for more ideas. x
