Hi paulacondra

There’s a discussion here explaining what buttercream fondant is:

This type of fondant is similar to sugarpaste cake covering but is made with butter or vegetable fat, icing sugar and other ingredients to thicken it to a rolling consistency. It is used as cake covering.
Sugarpaste or fondant is a rollable icing used for covering cakes:

How to make Sugarpaste from scratch?

Butter cream icing is sweet fluffy cream made with butter/margarine and icing sugar beaten together until light and fluffy. It can be used for covering and filling cakes.

In the UK fondant is a pourable icing used for fancies and not to be confused with the American term fondant used to describe sugarpaste. Here is fondant icing:

Confused? It can be!
