Boxing Ring Cake – how to make the ropes

Hello,
I have been asked to make a boxing ring cake. I thought this was straight forward enough since it is a square cake, but then I started looking at what to use for the ropes and how to secure them. My thoughts have been strawberry laces, cocktail straws (the thin ones with no bends), fondant covered wires (although making this even could be problematic). Has anyone made one before and if so do you have any suggestions on what to use and how to secure them?
Thanks.

Hi rebekah6

Search in youtube how to make boxing ring/wrestling ring cake and you’ll find a couple of good guides on how to make the posts and what to use for the ropes. One very good guide is from CakePlayground which is a complete tutorial. Another from Mayen which is just a guide, nevertheless, still excellent. I don’t want to set the links because the whole video will upload onto this site. However if you can’t find them please let me know and I’ll put the links in.

Thank you for this, I have found them. If possible I want the ropes to go into the corner and not wrap around them to make it more realistic (or at least hide the fact that they are wrapped around) . The first tutorial is more what I would like but I have envisaged the corners a little different to this. I was thinking more like the following:

I will keep searching on the internet, although no luck so far and keep brainstorming too 🙂

The first link in your answer I think is based on the following:

You could make the post pillars fat and make those white rope holder/ body protectors from gumpaste. Once dry attach them to the post then thread either the strawberry lace or ribbon through the hooks to make the ropes.
I’ve noticed in some pictures, straws have been used instead by inserting them into fondant pillars.

If I come across anything else I’ll post.
