Beading

Help! I recently bought a beading mould to make beading round a 3 tier cake and the beading stretched/bent once it went hard. What did I do wrong?

Hi craigielodge11

What medium did you use to make the beads from? If it was from straight sugarpaste, it’s possible the beads stretched as you unmoulded them. It can happen even with gumpaste if it is a little on the soft side. I find it happens more with soft silicone moulds rather than the rigid ones.Try dusting the mould with some lustre dust or icing sugar for easy release, let the beads sit in the mould for a few minutes to cool off before taking them out. The warmth of your hands will have made the paste very warm and more liable to distorting. Some mould manufacturers recommend popping the mould in the freezer for a few minutes before releasing the project. Hopefully other members may also be able to give different reasons why this happened.
