Baby in cradle flower paste splitting

I’ve made pauls baby in cradle topper and it has gone ok apart from the flower paste Splitting when I put it on the wires. I have looked at other members answers about this and possibly threading wires through sugar paste first. Tried this and had no luck at all. Wondered if anyone else has had same problem and could anyone help with ideas please?

Try letting the flower paste dry a tiny amount before place it on the wires. It might be because the paste is a bit soft and the wire cuts through it. I did the threading sugar paste method and it worked fine for me, it’s really just to pad the wires a little to make them less keen.

Tried to let the paste dry a little but then it cracked as I think the paste was too dry. Once you put the wires through the sugar paste, did you let the paste on the wires dry before putting the canopy on?

Yes I did but not rock hard. I formed the wires while the paste was still wet and also remember kneading trex into the paste for the canopy. It just went straight on.

Just finished the canopy and it was a success! Thanx for the advice. Must have tried all day but glad I didn’t give up.

YAY!! well done! gets really frustrating when things don’t go right. I always have problems with shoe heels, they never dry for me. x
