Any advice will be great.

Hello cake lovers any advise you can give will be great. I am making a two tier cake for my friends parents wedding anniversary next week and the cake is to be transported to Wales. My friend will be taking it and I have given him a stern warning that the cake must arrive in one piece. Thanks to madeitwithlove on the information on heavy duty boxes, I ordered one last night and hopefully it will arrive on time. I will be using buttercream and I don’t want the BC to start oozing out of the cake due to the weather this time of year. Also am not sure if the the car the cake will be transported in has an AC to keep it cool. Although I love ganache, am not too confident on making it and wouldn’t want any mishaps with this cake .please any information on using buttercream, keeping the cake cool , transporting the cake etc will be great. Many thanks.

Hi NikNak42

Buttercream can be given more structure by adding melted chocolate or ganache, see Paul’s tutorial here:

Meringue powder will also stabilize buttercream. You’ll find loads of information online by googling
‘how to use meringue powder to stabilize buttercream’
The cake should be transported in the boot of the car. I use those funny rubbery nonslip mats like the one in this picture

You can buy them by the roll. I bought mine in the camping and caravan shop but I think most people have them now. I also wedge the box with duvets so it really does not move.
If you search in youtube ‘Caljava how to make a cake delivery box’ You’ll see them make the box and show how to use dry ice for transporting the cake. In the UK we can get dry ice, try here http://www.dryiceuk.com/
If you’ve never used it before and want to, phone the company up and ask for handling advise. Dry ice can give you severe burn so be careful when handling.
I have to deliver to Wales at the end of August and will probably be using the above company. Lets wait and see what the weather holds. Good luck! x

Wow madeitwithlove thank you so much. I did search you tube and saw them using dry ice but didn’t know what it was. As always you are a star. I loveeeeee this site. It’s great.
