Adding lustre to a plastic component

Hi, I am making a Wilton Carousel cake for my grandsons christening and I wondered if there would be a way to have a lustred finish to the poles and the horses? They are white plastic. I have tried lightly covering the poles in royal icing but then I can’t slide the horses down them! I did wonder if PME spray lustre might work but thought it may not adhere to the plastic without something under it. Has anyone else used the kit and covered the pole? Any ideas would be very welcome. Thank you 🙂

Hi mrsymo

I don’t know anything about the Wilton carousel however I did make the carousel from Paul’s tutorial. Have you seen how he covers the poles in the carousel cake tutorial? You can see it here:

If you did it Paul’s way, the poles wouldn’t need painting. I’m not sure if PME lustre will work on plastic but you could spray one of the poles to see whether it works. I know the spray is quite sticky so the lustre might adhere.
