Homecoming Scotland Celebration Cake

Scotland celebrated 10 years of devolution on the 1st July 2009 with a special cake. To mark the occasion a big party was held at the parliament with the Queen and Prince Philip in attendance along with the children born in Scotland on the day of devolution (or the reconvening of the Scottish Parliament!).

Truly Scrumptious were delighted to be invited to take up the challenge to produce the cake.

After many discussions about designs it was decided to have a picture of each of the children on the cake. There were 141 in total which took a lot of cutting, pasting and scanning onto edible art paper. Paul’s pictured below with the cake very much work in progress. The finished product had sugar thistles, the new parliament tartan on the board with a sugar saltire taking pride of place.

The cake’s arrival caused quite a stir with an STV film crew catching the moment. Paul was interviewed shortly after it had been delivered safely with highlights played on STV news bulletins throughout the day.

We have asked for the video and will post that as soon as it arrives.
